Thank you for inviting me to speak to you today. Home lending plays a very important role in the Australian economy, as well as in the lives of millions of Australians.
Today I will speak about three main topics:
- First, I will update you on ASIC鈥檚 work as Australia鈥檚 consumer credit regulator, including our focus in the home lending market on key protections such as the responsible lending obligations.
- Second, I will touch on some outcomes from the Financial System Inquiry that are relevant to the home lending industry, including the Government鈥檚 announcement about a review of mortgage broker remuneration.
- Third, I will talk about innovation, including in credit markets, and some important steps that lenders and brokers can take to realise the benefits and mitigate the risks of digital disruption.
